VACCINATION PROGRAMS

At West Hills Animal Hospital, we believe that preventative wellness care is an important strategy for keeping your pet healthy and happy for many years to come.  Vaccinations are a well known part of preventative care but fall short of meeting the needs of our companions.  Combined with biannual physical examinations, regular risk factor assessment, internal and external parasite control, preventative dentistry and surveillance diagnostics we can team up to meet the needs and challenges our pets face now and in the future.

Vaccines are necessary to provide pets with the immunity they need to fight off both life threatening and highly contagious illnesses.  We endeavor to carefully evaluate each pet individually and develop a plan for each family.

Core vaccines are those vaccines that are recommended regardless of risk factors.  The diseases that these vaccines prevent pose human health concerns and can be fatal to pets.

Core vaccines for dogs include Rabies, Distemper, Hepatitis, and Parvo virus.

Core vaccines for cats include Rabies, Panleukopenia, Rhinotracheitis, and Calci virus.

Depending upon specific concerns, non-core vaccines may be needed.  These vaccines include Bordetella vaccine for dogs that frequent dog parks, day care, boarding facilities and groomers; Leptosporosis and Lyme vaccines for pets that travel in certain areas; and Feline leukemia vaccine for cats with outdoor contact or potential exposure to unknown cats.   Ask about other unique vaccines if you have specific concerns.
