BEHAVIOR TRAINING

At the heart of our mission statement is the celebration of the human animal bond.  We want to help you get the most out of your relationship with your family member pet.  Our lives may depend on it and our companions deserve it!  Unresolved behavior problems top the list of reasons pets are rehomed or surrendered to shelters.  We have fostered longstanding partnerships with veterinary behavior lists, licensed trainers and other standouts in the area of understanding the behavior needs of our pets.

Sometimes behavior concerns are simply matter of consistent training.  Please check out important documents about puppy and dog care and kitten and cat care in the Wellness and Preventative section of our site.

Occasionally, pets are anxious about visiting new places, especially the veterinary office.  In some circumstances, pets associate hospitals with a past frightening or painful interaction.  We are committed to making every visit for every pet as positive as possible.  All of our procedures are set up to minimize pain from the use of very small gauge needles and distraction techniques, to applying local anesthetics when indicated.  Each of our team members is trained to recognize and begin treatment for pain when present.  Please ask us to explain to you the measures we take to strive to be a "Pain Free Hospital".   Furthermore, if your pet is already afraid of veterinary hospitals, West Hills Animal Hospital is the place for you and your best friend.  Even the environment is set up to minimize stress with an open floor plan, solid doors to minimize sound transfer, individualized ventilation systems to minimize scent transfer, positive pheromone therapy all combined with a team that has a true love of animals (and full pockets of treats).   Read more about helping your pet at the veterinarian

Pet selection:  We would love to visit with you prior to the arrival of your new family member.  Together we can help you choose a pet that can best fit your home and lifestyle.  For additional resources visit these links.
