Dr. Amsberry to attend seminar on new uses for healing cold laser therapy
Dr. Amsberry is really looking forward to his two day seminar this weekend regarding more uses for our healing laser equipment. We are already seeing many great results in our patients with various muscle, bone and nerve problems. This seminar will focus on using the non drug, healing laser option to treat many internal organ issues. Namely, kidney, liver, pancreas, thyroid, and intestinal issues.

Dr. Steve Amsberry attends the 2009 Cardiology Symposium
Dr. Amsberry recently attended the 2009 Cardiology Symposium in Portland, OR. The symposium was an interactive and instructive day of learning practical and useful techniques for the diagnosis and treatment of patients with cardiac conditions and diseases. The symposium was headed by Portland area cardiologists: Dr. Kathryn Atkinson, Dr. William Rausch and Dr. Gary Wood.

Dr. Steve Amsberry attends Veterinary Family Practice Credential Course at the University of California Davis.
Steve Amsberry DVM, recently completed the second of four modules of the Veterinary Family Practice Credential Course at the Veterinary School at UC Davis. The module's focus was entirely on communication skill development with the ultimate goal to improve patient care. Subjects included learning and communication styles of adults, emotional intelligence, and the role of the family practitioner in the community. Dr. Amsberry is a charter member of the Association for Veterinary Family Practice.

Julia Moore, DVM and Katrina Scharlau, CVT Attend Veterinary Symposium in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
August 13-16, 2008 Julia Moore, DVM and Katrina Scharlau, CVT of West Hills Animal Hospital attended the 5th International Symposium on Rehabilitation and Physical Therapy in Veterinary Medicine in Minneapolis, Minnesota. This symposium reviewed advances in animal rehabilitation for arthritis, surgery, neurological disease, respiratory disease and pain management techniques such as "cold" laser therapy, hydrotherapy (underwater treadmill) and therapeutic exercises. They are both excited about the implementation of these advances to improve and expand their patient care and pain management options.

Dr. Julianne Vickstrom Attends Veterinary Conferences in Savannah, GA.
August 2-7 saw Dr. Julianne Vickstrom DVM of West Hills Animal Hospital, attending back-to-back continuing education conferences in Savannah, GA. The first was the annual meeting of the Association of Exotic Mammal Veterinarians. Held over two days, the meeting encompassed: radiology, an ultrasound lab, and a review of current advances in small mammal medicine. The 29th annual conference of the Association of Avian Veterinarians was held immediately following. This conference reviewed advancements in avian medicine, a review selected diagnostics, several masters classes, and a segment on wildlife and conservation. Dr. Vickstrom has attended both animal AEMV meetings and 13 annual AAV meetings.

This Little Sheep Will Not Be Going to Market!

West Hills Animal Hospital is proud to support the 4-H Club and Benton County Animal Auction by purchasing a sheep from 4-H member Andie Parrish at this year's auction. Miss Parrish's sheep was returned to her to keep as a pet, solidifying West Hills Animal Hospital's commitment to enhancing the human-animal bond.

Two New Certified Veterinary Technicians at West Hills Animal Hospital
The doctors and staff at West Hills Animal Hospital are proud to announce that Kim Elliot and Lindsay Carroll gained certification as Veterinary Technician in January of 2008 after successfully passing the four hour comprehensive exam, both Kim and Lindsay were required to complete at least 6,000 hours of on-the-job training with a licensed Oregon veterinarian covering a multitude of technical areas including: animal anatomy, physiology, pharmacology, animal behavior, radiography and surgical assistance among many others.
Kim worked at West Hills for over six years before gaining her certification, and graduated with an Associate Degree in General Studies from Linn-Benton Community College in 2003. Lindsay has worked as a Veterinary Assistant since 2004 and graduated from Oregon State University in 2007 with a bachelor's of science degree in Animal Science and a minor in Agricultural Business.

West Hills Animal Hospital Recieves AAHA Accreditation
West Hills Animal Hospital of Corvallis has again recieved accreditation following a comprehensive evaluation by the American Animal Hospital Association. The evaluation includes a quality assessment review of the hospital's facility, medical equipment, practice methods and pet health care management.
Only 15 percent of all small animal veterinary practices in the U.S. have achieved accreditation by the American Animal Hospital Association. In order to maintain accredited status, West Hills Animal Hospital must continue to be evaluated regularly by the association's consultants.
“West Hills Animal Hospital belongs to a select group of practices that are committed to meeting the highest standards in veterinary medicine,” says Thomas A. Carpenter, DVM, AAHA president. “AAHA hospitals pass a stringent evaluation of over 900 standards covering patient care, client service and medical protocols. By attaining accreditation, West Hills Animal Hospital is demonstrating its dedication to offering the best care to its patients and clients.”
The American Animal Hospital Association is an international organization of more than 36,000 veterinary care providers who treat companion animals. Established in 1933, the association is well known among veterinarians for its high standards for hospital and pet health care.
